Project Overview

The St. Jude Advanced Research Center Phase 2 (ARC II) was an $810 million research facility in Memphis, Tennessee, commissioned by St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The project called for an 865,000 GSF building on approximately 5.7 acres, encompassing 16 occupiable levels plus a roof mechanical penthouse. The program included a deep basement with a below-grade tunnel connecting to the existing ARC I, four shelled research floors for future fit-out, and an interstitial mechanical level. The scope represented one of the most significant research facility investments in the country. The client engaged PRESWERX to support the pursuit with a presentation and presentation coaching.

Client Challenges

The client was competing for one of the largest and most mission-critical research facility projects in the country. The pursuit presented several demanding challenges:

  • Communicating the technical scope and execution strategy for an 865,000 GSF, 16-level research building to one of the world's most recognized pediatric research institutions.

  • Demonstrating the team's ability to manage the complex logistics of a deep basement, below-grade tunnel connection to existing infrastructure, and multiple shelled floors planned for phased fit-out.

  • Differentiating the construction team in a high-profile selection where the owner's mission made the choice deeply consequential.

  • Preparing presenters to deliver a sophisticated, confident narrative to St. Jude's leadership in a live selection interview.

The materials had to match the seriousness and scale of the institution and the project.

Scope of Work

PRESWERX built the selection presentation and provided coaching to prepare the client's team for the St. Jude interview. The presentation conveyed the team's construction approach for an extraordinarily complex program: a 16-level research building with a deep basement, below-grade tunnel to ARC I, four shelled floors for future fit-out, and interstitial mechanical infrastructure. The content was structured to demonstrate both the technical command and the organizational sophistication that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital requires of a construction partner for a project of this scale and consequence. Coaching prepared the team's speakers to present at the highest level.

PRESWERX Approach

PRESWERX approached the engagement with the understanding that St. Jude is not a typical owner. The institution's mission demands construction partners that can perform at the highest level, technically and organizationally.

  • Built the presentation narrative around the team's specific approach to the ARC II program: below-grade logistics, phased research floor planning, tunnel connectivity to existing infrastructure, and long-term facility adaptability.

  • Structured the content to speak to both the technical review team and the institutional leadership evaluating the client as a long-term construction partner.

  • Coached presenters to deliver with the precision, confidence, and composure that a selection of this magnitude requires.

The result was a presentation worthy of one of the most consequential research facility pursuits in the country.

Results Delivered

PRESWERX delivered a presentation and coaching package calibrated for an $810 million pursuit at one of the world's leading pediatric research institutions. Every element was built to the standard the project and the owner demanded.

  • The presentation communicated the team's construction approach across a highly complex, multi-level research program with clarity and technical authority.

  • The narrative positioned the client as a partner equipped for the long-term, mission-critical demands of a St. Jude construction engagement.

  • Coaching prepared each presenter to perform with the composure and precision St. Jude's leadership expects at a selection of this consequence.

The client walked into the selection with a presentation that matched the ambition and importance of ARC II.
